William was born with Sickle Cell Anemia Disease. This disease is when your red blood cells form in a sickle or crescent-moon shape instead of a normal full circle shape. Due to the misshapen cells, they are not able to carry enough oxygen to various organs in the body which can result in extremely painful episodes for a person with the disorder.

We consider William our miracle child in that he has beaten so many things that have come up against him in his life. He is spirited, sweet, happy and loves going to church. Although he was born with this disease he has been able to live a pretty normal life and experience a lot of things like school and sports with minimal interruption.

At the age of 3 William contracted bacterial meningitis. He pulled through miraculously with minor setbacks in comparison to most other children his age who get it. He lost some of his right side motor skills (balance, hearing and hand-coordination) but at this time all he requires is occupational therapy to help regain full strength in his right hand. (His balance is fully recovered and although he cannot hear out of his right ear his left ear was never affected.) We are very grateful for how well he is doing. The doctors assert that even though Sickle Cell is not the direct cause for him catching this disease, sickle cell has weakened his spleen and as a result of this his body was a lot more susceptible to other diseases than a normal body would be.

In June of 2015, the same year he contracted meningitis, his little brother Moses was born. Amazingly, Moses is a full blood protein match to Will and is able to donate bone marrow in order to cure William of his Sickle Cell disease. It is very rare to have a full match for this procedure but even rarer still to get one from your first sibling.

In November of this year William and Moses will go to VCU Children’s Hospital in RiIchmond, VA to begin the year long process of healing William. Moses will provide bone marrow, William will receive it and then undergo the process of “growing” a new immune system. We are nervous yet faithful for what is to come.

HOW CAN YOU HELP

William and Moses’ medical insurance is assisting but more is needed to cover all of the associated costs. We expect Will to be in the hospital starting in November but hope to be home before the New Year.  Anything you can contribute to help the family out during this time will be appreciated.

Thank you!

We are so grateful for all of the support we have received, thank you!

We got some new information from the insurance company 2 days ago that affects how much money we need. We are still receiving coverage for the procedure but we must meet our max out of pocket pay requirement for this year first. We have $7500 remaining.

We have increased our max goal to help us cover this amount. Again thank you for anything you can contribute but above everything we would love your thoughts and prayers.
