Support for Noosa Legend's Family

On Sunday 4th November, while completing his 15th Noosa Triathlon, my step father Sam suffered a heart attack, he was 45 years old, fit, energetic and full of life. It was sudden, unexpected and has had a devastating impact on our entire family and circle of friends.
Sam was on life support for 5 days before our family made the impossible decision to cease life support. Sam passed away surrounded by his loved ones and in one final act of love and kindness, had his organs donated to two people in need.
Sam was married to my mother Michelle, was my step dad for 22 year and father to my two beautiful little sisters. Not only has the loss of Sam left a hole in our family, it has also taken a huge financial toll.
Sam was insured to participate in the race that day but the family’s insurance claim has been denied stating that his death was result of illness rather than injury. This has meant that my family is left to cover the funeral expenses incurred from a loss so shocking and sudden. The stress has increased as we get closer to Christmas and my family has to try and get through their first Christmas without a dad, husband, son and brother.
During the time since Sam’s passing, my mother has not yet been able to return to her work as she has been supporting my sisters, while working through her own grief, which makes her unable to support others in her professional role as a counsellor, particularly for others that are experiencing their own trauma.
I am hoping that this call for support will help in covering Sam’s funeral costs and give my mum one less thing to stress about during this extremely difficult time.
