'm currently homeless and have been staying at shelters, with my sister's family, and at the VA hospital in Jackson, MS. I have been accepted to and just received a voucher fromm from the Jackson Housing Authority a voucher for section 8 housing. However  it's for.$567 and $667.dollarsand wouldn't get me a place close to transportation for a.job painting  If I can provide proof of income, I could get a higher voucher for better housing that would be closer to riding distance for a job. Ultimately  transportation is my key thing, heck I could even stay in it for a short time to save for housing if I had to. I can work, can have a job, and have a valid driver's license  I just don't have transportation or a place to stay for more than a few nights at a time. I'm not looking for a hand out as much as a hand up.
How many have talked-about helping a friend, a.person, avteran (I served 7 months in '90-'91 during Operation Desert Shield/Storm)  Here is your chance, even if it is just by sharing. Thank you and i appreciate your help. Thanks and God bless you. I know many are in need yourselves and if you can't give even a dollar, would you please share so that maybe someone else could? Yes, it's slmost embarrassing to have to ask, but I do need help and thankfully I do get some care from the VA  but I need more. I was recently told I have 38% lung capacity  but I'm still trying and willing to work and think I'm able. I have some mental issues that are being addressed and I was just recently in the pain clinic for my back and knees. As I've said, if you can't give a dollar, please say a prayer and share. Also, considering contributing to the Gateway Rescue Mission in Jackson  MS. Thank you and God bless you.

Well, I just wanted to share my progress with you all. Thanks to y'all I was able to stay in a hotel and off the streets and out of the shelters. A week or so ago, I was sitting outside the VA (I had had an appointment earlier) debating what to do. I still had/have some money left, but had just been walking around town trying to kill some time before heading back to the shelter.
My thoughts had gotten the better of me and that's the main reason for returning. While debating what to do, a VA policeman who is a veteran also stopped and asked me if I was alright and all I could do was just shake my head. He stayed there talking to me even though it was making him late and he helped me to go inside to the ER and seek help which I did.
They didn't have a room available, but we're able to get me a room at the VA in Biloxi which is where I am now. This has been such a surprise for me so far. They actually want to help you and not just get you stable and out as fast as they can like Jackson does. They have given me hope, even for when I get out.
I will still have to find housing and such, but I'll have at least 40 more days to get things figured out, but I feel as though they will help me with that as well. As long as receiving the HUD voucher from Jackson doesn't mess anything up, but I really want to stay down here if at all possible. The care is sooo much better than in Jackson.
But anyway, that's where things are now and I just wanted to share with everyone. Thanks to you all and may God bless us all!

I'm sending this update to everyone and would first like to say that I am so very grateful for the support you have given so far!!! It's mind-blowing to me. Miraculous even! I know the quality of friends I have. There's never been any doubt of that, but I know how situations are forr so many of us, especially now between Christmas and tax time! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for each donation, each share, and each prayer.
I am overjoyed to say that just over $1000 has been raised so far. I have to make a decision on where I am able to live based on my voucher. I'm hoping I will be able to go ahead and get the utilities on and possibly also be able to find some decent transportation. That would be like the icing on the cake. However, I am not intending to be greedy, just hopeful. It's been miraculous already regardless! Thank you and may God bless us all this brand new year!
