Support For Baby Shaye Collins

Donation protected
Baby Shaye Collins from Killaloe was born September 6th 2016, 9 weeks prematurely by emergency section. Doctors had established at week 27 of the pregnancy that he wasn't doing so well. His mother Veronica was transferred from Limerick to Holles St. Hospital Dublin where he received 3 in-utero blood transfusions that helped him make it to birth. When he was born, doctors advised that the odds were stacked against his survival, but thankfully Shaye had other plans. He was ventilated and continued to receive blood transfusions every few hours. At 3 days old doctors established the problem and diagnosed Shaye as having an extremely rare blood condition called Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). Shaye is the only baby in Ireland to have this condition and survive birth. It is such a rare condition that doctors were unsure how to treat him. Once he was stabilised, Shaye was transferred to Crumlin children's hospital for ongoing care in ICU. Shaye now requires a bone marrow transplant and is currently a patient in Great Ormond St. Hospital in London to have the procedure carried out. This is his best chance for survival and it is only the beginning of a long road for Shaye, his parents Eoin and Veronica and his 3 siblings, Carly, Freya and Jayce. This page has been set up to raise funds to help with the costs of a long term stay in London and the costs of travelling over and back. Thank you for supporting Shaye.
