In December Arin went to the doctor for a suspected UTI. What started as a UTI turned into fluctuating fevers as high as 102, abdominal pain and severe fatigue. After many months of inconclusive medical testing she was recently diagnosed with Common Variable Immune Deficiency. CVID is a rare disorder that impairs the immune system. Basically, the body doesn’t make enough immunoglobulin, or antibodies to protect itself from infection.
Arin will start a treatment plan of immunoglobulin infusions once a week beginning Oct 22nd. If they are beneficial, she will continue them permanently. It is tremendously encouraging to have a diagnosis and a plan to health.
Many things will be different as a new “normal” is established for us. The medical bills incurred so far, along with the ones that will come with long term treatment, will require changes across many areas of our life. Everyday tasks such as grocery shopping and house cleaning have also required adjustments with Arin’s fatigue and other symptoms.
Some of you have asked about ways to support us monetarily, such as helping with cleaning services or medical costs. We have set up this GoFundMe to make that easy to do. The site recommends a specific goal and we have set it at our out-of-pocket costs for medical bills from 2018.
