Support Amar and his Family in Iraq

Donation protected
We are a group of Amar's friends in the UK who want to raise money so that he can support his mum and family in Iraq. He has finally been reunited with his mother after 30 years apart. You might have seen his amazing story and the incredibly moving reunion on BBC News last week.

Amar's Story

In 1991 Saddam Hussein napalm-bombed Amar's neighbourhood in Basra, Iraq. Rescue teams found him alone, burned and unconscious. When he woke up in a hospital hundreds of miles away.

He was told that he was an orphan.  Aged just 10, he was brought to the UK for emergency surgery to treat his terrible injuries. Amar underwent 27 major plastic surgery operations.

He settled in Devon in the UK - where he still lives today - but last year he received a mysterious Facebook message from a stranger in Iraq, telling him his mum could have survived the napalm attack after all.

DNA testing confirmed that Amar’s mother is still alive and he recently returned to Iraq with a BBC News team to be reunited with her.

This is a photo of Amar with his mum, Zara. They were finally reunited recently in Iraq after being separated for nearly 30 years. It was also the first time Amar had been to Iraq since he was brought to the UK for surgery as a child.

The reunion was amazing for Amar, and he now wants to go back to Iraq regularly to see his relatives. He also wants to help them out financially. His family are extremely poor, live in bad conditions with limited electricity and sanitation. His elderly mother needs medical help for an eye operation. Although Amar feels very lucky to live in the UK, he finds it hard to get work and doesn’t have much money to help his family in Iraq.

Thank you for any support you might be able to offer Amar.
