Support Afghan-American Pursue Dream in Medicine

Donation protected
Dear Reader,

My name is Hamayun Daftani and I'm a graduate of Kean University from Union, NJ with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Molecular Biology. I've been accepted into Ross University School of Medicine while starting with their Medical Readiness Educational Program (MERP). The reason I chose Ross University is because I followed in the footsteps of my older brother who was also accepted, successfully graduated and obtained his medical degree. The reason I chose to pursue medicine in particular is because my entire life I've been surrounded by people afflicted with illness and pain, sudden and slow deaths from loved ones, unjust violence and murder. I felt helpless each and every time. I swore to myself that I would do everything in my power and by the grace of God to never be helpless again. I would focus all my efforts in practicing medicine and become a Cardiologist to help those who can’t help themselves. To educate and empower the next generation to also focus their efforts to help those in need.

Even though I've been accepted to medical school, my situation hasn't been the best one. I live with my father who was once a proud 2 Star General in the Afghan National Army during the Russian invasion of Afghanistan. He helped bring the entire family to America after the war ended. Unfortunately, time has taken its toll on him and he is only living on Social Security Income. As far as my own financial situation goes, after my undergraduate studies concluded, I chose to take my MCAT and apply for medical school. I chose to open a kitchen in March and with the assistance of my friend Chris DeFranco who would work with me. I met Chris 2 years ago and found out he was an orphan and had been homeless so I decided to bring him to live with me because I figured if I'm on a mission to help others, why not start by helping him. To show him that anything is possible if you put your mind and heart into it. The day I got accepted to Ross University, I forfeited the kitchen in hopes to move and pursue my dream. I've applied for Financial Aid through FAFSA, but while applying for student loans through the bank, I've been denied. Multiple times. I needed a cosigner but I i don't have or know anyone willing to help me except for my father and yet we continued to get denials. If I have a dream which is of a noble cause with my father's permission and if The Most Merciful is behind me then I should continue forward without changing course. I purchased a ticket to Florida to start the MERP program with $500 in my pocket without any guarantee that I'll have any financial backing or a place to live. To pursue my dream, I've given up everything I have and will give my own blood to ensure that I pursue my goal. I have no support as of yet from anyone but my father but I'm still hopeful that someone.. somewhere will help me by the grace of God Almighty. I am now in Florida waiting for the MERP program to start but have no money for housing or food. I would need help with costs for housing/books/food during MERP and for the first semester as well until I could get an answer in regards to qualifying for federal loans. The goal is 21,000 for this semester which includes 14,000 for tuition, 4,000 for Rent, 1,500 for Books, 1,500 for food and travel to and from school. I'm a simple man with only one goal. To better myself in order to help those in need regardless of who they are or where they're from. I come to you as a beggar with my hands out and open for any help. I've only asked the Lord of the Worlds for help but today I ask the people of my community for help. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Assalaamun Alaikum.
