Meet Collin Berg... as close to a SuperHero as anyone can get!
Collin is 15 years old, big brother to Logan, who looks up to him immensely and little brother to Marina, who is his biggest champion. Collin was born with congenital hydrocephalus and right hemiparetic cerebral palsy. Both conditions are a result of a brain injury he suffered in utero. Collin is no stranger to hospitals, doctors, surgeries and therapy. Collin lives his life every day facing challenges and tasks that we all take for granted. Collin has an incredible will to live as evidenced by his grim prognosis at birth and his ability to overcome. Despite his challenges, he maintains an incredibly positive outlook on life and amazing sense of humor. Collin is a country music fan, an avid rock climber, loves the New York Yankees and aspires to be a sports broadcaster one day.
On October 7th, 2015 just before his 14th birthday, Collin was diagnosed with very High Risk PH+ Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He was placed on a particularly intense treatment protocol for ALL that would require several hospital admissions and just under 3 years to complete. After the initial shock of the news had time to settle in, Collin set his mind on battling this new demon with as much fight, strength, and courage he could muster. And fight he has, and win he will.
Collin is currently midway through his treatment. To say, there have been complications and setbacks along the way would be an understatement. The next 16 months should prove more merciful as compared to the relentless treatment he has undergone so far. He looks forward to a more normal routine, and winning his battle against cancer.
