“Police Lives Matter” Ofc. Lawrenz

Fighting this case will come with an incredible financial cost for Officer Joshua Lawrenz and his family. As a way to show support for Officer Joshua Lawrenz his friends and family have decided to start this fundraiser. Thank you in advance for your generous contribution.

Officer Lawrenz grew up in the city of Chaska, and has been proud to serve the city he loves as a police officer for the past 14 years.  This past summer, Officer Lawrenz faced accusations of racial profiling after some residents of the Latino community felt their race was a factor in traffic stops initiated by the officer.

For the department, Officer Lawrenz has held the positions of FTO, Use of Force Instructor, and Drug Recognition Expert and has equally patrolled and enforced laws throughout the entire city of Chaska, not only this past summer, but for the past 14 years of his career.  While the officer’s patrol statistics supported this, these facts, among others, were ignored in the final report following an incomplete, agenda driven, and factually incorrect investigation done by an attorney hired by the Chief of Police.

Despite the obvious flaws in the investigation, the Chaska Police Department indicated they would ask for the resignation of Officer Lawrenz or move to terminate.  Officer Lawrenz chose to stand by his morals and professional integrity and refused to accept the terms of any resignation that would have been presented.  On April 17, Officer Lawrenz was terminated from the police department and a one-sided statement by the Chief of Police was released to the media shortly thereafter.  Unable to comment himself, Officer Lawrenz was left to watch his name become the subject of hateful, fabricated, and deceitful comments throughout social media.

Unfortunately, after 14 years of service, accolades, and a clean personnel file, Officer Lawrenz truly became subject to a termination that was politically motivated as opposed to one that was just and substantive.

Officer Lawrenz, together with the union attorneys representing him, will challenge the decisions of the department and the integrity of the investigation during an upcoming arbitration process over the next several months in hopes to restore a career, as well as a reputation that has since been needlessly tarnished.
