Rebuild, Restore and Revive BVI and inspire its next generation
In the wake of hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, the British Virgin Islands (BVI) continue efforts to rebuild and recover. Beyond repairing the damage to the infrastructure—which was extensive and devastating—we must shift some of our attention and resources to the islands’ tourism, culture, and empowerment of future generations.
Summer Sizzle BVI is an annual fashion event produced by Terry Donovan, a native of the BVI. As one of the region’s most anticipated events, the gathering has become a major contributor to the islands’ tourism—a critical economic pillar heavily impacted by the storms.
As part of its continued commitment to promote the British Virgin Islands—Nature’s Little Secret—Summer Sizzle BVI plans to celebrate its 10th Anniversary with a special event scheduled for Wednesday, July 25, 2018 through Monday, July 30, 2018. Beyond attracting visitors back to the BVI, the event will be used as a platform to engage and empower the BVI youth through the arts of fashion, beauty and photography.
The Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies has partnered with Summer Sizzle BVI creating a series of workshops for Friday, July 27 that caters to youths interested in the areas of the business of fashion, makeup and hairstyling. Students from high schools throughout the BVI are invited to attend with limited space. Additionally, Summer Sizzle BVI will be hosting a photography workshop which would also be held on Friday July 27 with world renowned photographer Nigel Barker with limited space.
The Summer Sizzle BVI glam squad has also arranged to award a hair and makeup package to 6 top-graduating females from Elmore Stoutt High School on their Graduation Day.
Founder & CEO of Summer Sizzle BVI, Mr. Terry Donovan said every year there is an increasing interest from our youth in fashion, beauty and photography.
Donovan stated, “We have seen the self-confidence & skills developed from aspiring models, designers and artists alike. Past participants have informed us that they have gained a confidence which helps them throughout their lives and careers.”
With your help, Summer Sizzle BVI will extend deeper into the community to turn setbacks caused by the hurricanes into creative opportunities for the islands’ future. All contributions will be greatly appreciated.
