For the last seven years, I've spent my summers sharing science, engineering, technology and maker programs with kids. Why? Because I LOVE learning with my students.
My goal is to make as many science and technology programs freely accessible to kids -- in places where kids will naturally be during the summer. This kind of outreach is vitally important to engage our next generation of innovators.
I wish I could say that there were lots of people donating their time to do this kind of outreach in NWNJ, but there just aren't. There are many reasons, but a big hurdle is the expense of hosting dozens of free programs for the community. As a small business, parent and educator, I donate as much as I can, but as my programs have grown, I know I need the help of my community to continue offering better and more programs each year.
That's why I need you!
This year we are offering the following free programs:
* Science & Swim at the Belvidere Pool.
* Science Stations at the Blairstown, Belvidere, Monroe Street and Sparta Farmers Markets.
* New Nature Exploration programs at White Lake in Hardwick.
* Maker Camp and Blub activities at several Warren COUnty Library locations.
* Free science activities at the Free Union Methodist Church Archery Program.
* Free science activities at the Blairstown Fourth of July Celebration.
* Free activities at the World Maker's Faire in NYC and NJ Maker's Day.
* And more to come!
As my free science stations and other programs have become more popular, the cost of materials to support my summer activities has grown tremendously. Believe it or not, I use hundreds of dollars in duct tape alone, each and every summer.
In addition, as programs grow, I have the opportunity to hire a new generation of educators, young people interested in sharing science and engineering with their communities. I believe everyone deserves to be paid for their hard work, and I want to make sure these dedicated teens and young adults can earn a living this summer.
I need your support. With your donations, I'll be able to purchase more materials for more fun projects. I'll be able to support my summer interns. We'll be able to host a wider range or programs in more locations. Together we can reach MORE kids and do MORE science... everywhere!
