ASD BioMedical student's dilemma
Donation protected
5 October 2018 - Please DO NOT DONATE.
Student Finance England has agreed to fully fund me.
I am now working with Go Fund Me to refund everyone who has already donated.
*** This was my original problem ***
I have until 30th September 2018 to raise £6,935 or be forced to leave my degree.
*** However, due to the publicity on social media and the donations so generously given already the university has said that I can have until June 2019 to pay this year's tuition fees. A small win, but it means I can keep studying - I cannot thank you all enough :) ***
If forced to leave I will still owe Student Finance England over £36,000 for all of my previous years of study.
On the day I left for uni I received an email from Student Finance England saying they would not pay my fees. Three months earlier I had received a letter and email from them stating my fees would be fully paid. Student Finance England have left me with just days to raise the £6935 fees or leave my course - which I have almost completed. If forced to leave I will still owe Student Finance Company £36,000+ for the years so far, and I will have no degree to earn enough money to repay and live.
I am studying BioMedicine at the University of Greenwich. Twice I have been nominated for the Vice Chancellor's Award for Excellence. I won in 2016 but unfortunately this year I was unsuccessful. Details can be found here: https://alumni.gre.ac.uk/vcsf/. The University believes I am a talented student.
I have a keen personal interest in Neurology and Psychology, as such I frequently attend lectures and TED talks - mainly online. My interest initially stemmed from trying to gain an understanding of my own conditions, Asperger's Syndrome, Dyslexia, Anxiety, and Depression. I have always been scientifically minded and wanted to be a doctor specialising in neurology. I was thrilled when I was offered a place at Greenwich University studying Applied BioMedicine. I have been at the university a number of years now, and not had a problem with my funding until now. This as I approach my final year.
In 2017, after 6 years of saving money, I volunteered as a medical intern with Projects Abroad in Nepal. A place close to my heart as my Great-grandfather was a Para and served alongside the Gurkhas. I loved my time there and will tell you more of my month in the hospitals, clinics, and mobile clinics as I raise more funds. At the end of my time there a number of the doctors I worked with exchanged contact details with me and offered references, not only for Med School, but also beyond in establishing my career as a doctor.
Please help me shift this £6935 road block and fulfill the potential all of these people see in me in being a caring and professional doctor.
