Hedenkamp Hurricane Harvey Relief

Donation protected
Hedenkamp Elementary's Student Council is helping raise money to help Henderson Middle School.

Hurricane Harvey stalled on top of Henderson Middle School and dumped around 50 inches of rainfall.  This flooded the Middle School campus and many of the communities.

The falling rain and rising bayou water came rapidly and was fierce.  Many of the homes and their school building had water in them for an average of 5 days.  Finally after the rain stopped, the bayous begin to drain off of the roads.  It was another 3 days before the roads were passable enough to get to the school to try to salvage anything.  Long story short, the middle school building was deemed a health hazard and the is being condemned with very little salvageable.

Many of the teachers have connected with other schools/educators and are being adopted to help them with needed supplies.  The Media Center (library)  is a total loss.  All books, library supplies, maker space tools, furniture…all either destroyed by water or mold and mildew.

Since students cannot attend school in our building, they started school a couple of weeks ago with students attending class on their 3 other campuses.  The 6th graders returned to the elementary school from which they just came.  7/8th graders moved into a wing in the High School campus.  They have classes being held on stage, in closets, just about anywhere there is a nook.  The school district has purchased portable buildings for our campus and it is their hopes that they will be able to move into them after Thanksgiving.
