2017 Shimmy Mob - St Pete, FL

Donation protected
Belly dancers across the world are preparing to make Belly Dance History once again and all for a great cause. On Saturday, May 13, 2017 Shimmy Mob groups will be appearing randomly at various locations worldwide to promote World Belly Dance Day and help raise awareness and funds for domestic abuse victims' shelters in their area.

Shimmy Mob has 172 registered cities  and 2,450 dancers worldwide committed to making this event a success!
We dance to the same song and choreography, wearing the same t-shirt, with the same goals in mind on one amazing day!

20 of those registered dancers make up our St Pete group for 2017! Our goal is to raise awareness and collect donations for CASA in St Pete, FL as well as to promote belly dance on World Belly Dance Day.

All funds raised on this site as well as in person will go directly to CASA St Pete.

CASA has been working in the Tampa Bay area since 1977 providing refuge, crisis intervention, advocacy, professional training and community outreach to break the silence that isolates victims of domestic violence and prevents them from a life of hope, independence and peace. CASA's mission is to raise our voices against violence through advocacy, empowerment and social change.

They operate the area’s 24-hour crisis hotline and a 100-bed emergency shelter, offer community support groups, provide courtroom advocacy, assist the Child Protective Investigative team and conduct community and corporate training.

This year CASA celebrates its 40th Anniversary! Over the past 12 months alone, CASA provided 37,000 nights of safety at its shelter; 18,000 Outreach services such as support groups, courtroom advocacy and economic empowerment programs; and the crisis hotline answered 5,000 calls. In addition, 3,700 children in Pinellas County schools participated in CASA’s Peacemaker anti-bullying and personal safety curriculum.

Since 1977, CASA has given us hope, saved lives and served our community. However, meeting our region’s needs has required CASA to greatly expand its services and domestic violence shelter, dramatically increasing their expenses.  Your contribution will help provide services to survivors now and for another 40 years.
