St. Pete Skates - Community Project

Founded in 2013 by local skateboarders, the mission of The St. Pete Skatepark Alliance was advocating for a world-class regional skatepark in our beloved city of St. Petersburg, Florida. After several years of petitioning, meetings, advocacy, undeterred hard work and determination our dream became a reality with the construction of the St. Petersburg Regional Skatepark. On June 2, 2018, a community of skateboarders, government officials, and local families all came together to cut the ribbon and celebrate the grand opening of this amazing addition to our city for all to enjoy!

Catering to all ages and all skill levels, the St. Pete Skatepark is Florida’s largest free public skatepark. The skatepark is for all to enjoy and especially our local community. It is everybody’s skatepark. As skateboarders, we have felt and seen the positive impact skateboarding can have on a person’s life. Not only is it a healthy activity, which is physically challenging but it also mentally challenging encouraging problem solving, creativity, and social interaction. Skateboarding gives children and option outside of mainstream team sports and a sense of belonging, identity, and life long friendships. Skateboarding can change lives.

Even though the park is right in their back yard, many local kids do not have the opportunity to learn to skate due to their socio-economic situation. We want everyone to have the chance to feel a part of the skatepark, to love it, and to appreciate it. Which brings us to the new mission The St. Pete Skatepark Alliance is embarking on. Which is to give local kids the opportunity to skate by providing boards, helmets, and pads. We want kids to not only to learn to skate and enjoy the park but to learn skate park etiquette, safety, and of course to rip. 100% of all proceeds will go to providing equipment to kids and safety will be a number one priority. Therefor, no skateboard will be handed out without a helmet and some basic instruction.

By giving all kids the opportunity to skate, we hope to ignite a passion for skateboarding, a love for the art of it, and fuel to protect and care for our beautiful new park while we greet with welcoming arms a new generation of skaters into our thriving St. Pete skateboarding family.
