Storm destroys author Rachel Brookes home

15 minutes: that's how long it took for a freak storm, a natural disaster, to uproot a massive tree and send it crashing through the home of author Rachel Brookes— destroying it and making it completely unliveable within seconds—part of the tree landing on the spot she had been sitting at merely 2 minutes beforehand wrapping Xmas presents for her nieces and nephews. Due to the severity of the damage and the force of the impact, the fact that Rachel is still with us is the biggest blessing, and this nightmare has been all Rachel has focused on since the day her life was flipped upside down and thrown into unexpected hardship.

4 months: that's how long its been since Rachel has lived in her home, which she fondly calls the bachelorette pad. The place she treasures and the place she worked hard to make her own.

Saturday, the 15th of December, 2018, changed the life of Rachel Brookes in an instant, and even though she has struggled greatly since and continues to struggle, she has tried to find every positive moment she can to grasp onto since and has put on a smile to those she encounters because that’s the type of person she is.

However, now, four months on, she needs our help. This lady, a person who has given to so many in our community— gone out of her way to help anyone in need is now in need herself.  And I don't know about you, but I believe in Karma. I know it's real, and that it comes to those who are good, kind and giving; Rachel is all those things and so much more.

Although Rachel's home was insured (hopefully the insurance company will cover the entirety of the home repairs ... that's still being processed and decided) we know for certain that her contents and belongings were NOT covered. She has lost so much. She has walked away with a couple of suitcases and the things she could grab in the small amount of time she was given just afterwards before she was told she was no longer allowed in due to safety concerns.

Rachel didn’t ask or expect this to happen. Rachel is not the type of person to ever ask for help. She’s the type of person who  believes there are millions of other people worse off than her and it has taken me this long to make her realise that she does need and deserves our help. She is also not the type of person who wishes or wants for high end material items or things; and that's not what she needs. She needs our help to start from scratch and any donations received will go entirely toward household items, furniture, and helping her cover all of the unexpected and growing costs associated with starting over while she waits for her home to be repaired and rebuilt.

So, I ask you today, can you help? Even $1, $5, $10, whatever you can spare will go to helping someone who is truly deserving, someone like Rachel. Let's help her to find her feet.

I am hoping to raise $10,000, which I feel is not nearly enough for her to get back on her feet, but enough to help her float so she doesn't sink any further.

Thank you, for any help.
