Stop This Water-Bill Nightmare

The photo above is what one of my single moms was charged after living in her rented home for 42 days. This was a year ago. Since then, she has been trying to get answers and help  from the city and her landlord, but all she gets is more bills.  She has  paid thousands of dollars to try to keep the water on, but unless she can come up with $1200 to go against the $1600+ bill, she will loose service 9 am Monday, July 1.  Monday morning, she will take $500 of her $600 paycheck to the city to try to keep the water on (she’s been told she needs to bring $1200). If her water is turned off, she looses her housing assistance. If she looses this, she can’t afford rent — and if she could pay full price, she can’t get water turned on due to a delinquent bill. From here, it’s a fast slide to homelessness. This single mom of two has worked so hard over the past six months to get a car, a good job, and earn her GED (she’s one test away). She’s overcome brain surgery and other medical issues. She’s joyfully given herself to the ministries at Secret Boutique and Embrace, becoming our most faithful volunteer. But she can’t climb out of this hole that has eroded underneath her due to the water issue. She’s made phone calls, taken time off work, and fought as hard as she can to get answers and help, but every penny she pays on her water bill gets applied to past-due amounts and she keeps getting saddled with sky-high bills plus late fees. She has worked hard to come off public assistance and make a better life for her family, but it seems she can’t get a break. Please pray for an intervention in this situation.
