BIRTH OF THE PROJECT
Earlier this year I lived in a small fishing village in Ghana called Kokrobite. A child once ran up to me and begged me for a book to read. He lived in an extremely disadvantaged community, with people living in very poor conditions and struggling to break out of the cycle of poverty.

I want to use my skills and knowledge to provide a foundational space for children to begin their first steps at progressing through life. The boldness of the boy who asked for the book infused in me the boldness to return to offer, not only one child a book, but as many as possible. I wish to provide the knowledge for them to improve themselves and their community.

SCHOOL MISSION

Education is a human right.

St Nicholas Mission Academy strives to provide education for those who cannot afford even the basic standards of living.

In the Kokrobite region, there are already some schools that require a small daily fee for attendance and lunch (3 GHC; 0.85c AUD; 0.62c USD; 0.47p GBP). Whilst these schools are extremely successful and contribute in a major way to providing education to underprivileged children, there is still a large proportion of children whose families cannot even provide for this. I endeavour to provide a learning haven for these children who are locked out of basic education at no fault of their own.

SCHOOL PROGRESS
We have started St Nicholas Mission Academy as a preparatory school (kindergarten, class 1 and class 2) and currently have 30 students, with a capacity for 90. We have secured the school grounds and will soon start renovations to divide the large building into smaller classrooms.

Child Sponsorship
Child sponsorship is another method of fundraising that is integral to the running of St Nicholas Mission Academy. We hope that your yearly donation to a particular child we will be more than just a donation, but a life-changing decision. You will receive updates twice a year on the progress of your child, including their interests, health, development and educational progress, as well as direct communication between both families if both families consent.

$150 per year (only $12.50 per month) will cover daily food costs.
$180 per year (only $15 per month) will cover daily food and water, writing books, textbooks and stationary.

If you choose to donate towards a specific item or would like to participate in the sponsorship program, please leave a comment in the description box with your donation in order for us to thank you accordingly or for us to set up the child-sponsor relationship [or email us at anaismenounos@gmail.com].

Any donation, large or small, will help us enormously in achieving our mission of providing education to these children! We cannot thank you enough!

THANK YOU
I would like to thank Inusah Amidu, my co-founder in Ghana, working tirelessly at the school to help us get off the ground running! Also a big thank you to our first round of donors who helped us secure the school building! And thank you to all our future donors - without you, none of this would be possible! <3
