BIRTH OF THE PROJECT

When visiting Ghana in 2018, a child ran up to me and begged me crying for a simple book to read. He lived in an extremely disadvantaged community, with people struggling to break out of the cycle of poverty.

The boldness of the boy who asked for the book instilled in me a boldness to return to offer, not only one child a book, but as many as possible. I wish to provide the knowledge for them to improve themselves and their community through a school. I want to use my skills and knowledge to provide a foundational space for children to begin their first steps at having a more fulfilling life.

SCHOOL MISSION

Education is a human right.

St Nicholas Mission Academy strives to provide education for those who cannot afford even the basic standards of living.

In Kokrobite, Ghana there are already some schools that require a small daily fee for attendance and lunch (3 GHC; 0.85c AUD; 0.62c USD; 0.47p GBP). Whilst these schools are extremely successful and contribute in a major way to providing education to underprivileged children, there is still a large proportion of children whose families cannot even provide for this. We endeavour to provide a learning haven for these children who are locked out of basic education at no fault of their own.

SCHOOL PROGRESS
St Nicholas Mission Academy is a preparatory school (nursery/creche, kindergarten level 1 and level 2) and currently has 30 students enrolled, with a capacity for 60.

Thanks to the generosity of the 66 people who have already donated to us, we have been able to partition the school building into 3 classrooms, purchased tables and chairs for teachers and students, textbooks, exercise books, stationary, whiteboards, bowls, spoons and cups, organised the installation of a toilet, secured 3 qualified teachers, employed a cook, gained WIFI internet, a printer and computer.

CHILD SPONSORSHIP:

Child sponsorship is crucial to the running of St Nicholas Mission Academy. Many of our families are in desperate situations affected by unemployment, illness and death. Their children would not have attended school if not for our charitable cause.

We hope that your yearly donation to a particular child will be more than just a donation, but a life-changing decision. You will receive updates twice a year on the educational, developmental and health progress and interests of your child. Watch your sponsor child thrive!

$200 per year (or $17 per month):
Includes daily lunch and drinking water, book and stationary kit, health insurance and tuition.
