St Mary Star of the Sea School
In addition to providing an education aligned with the Common Core State Standards and an Arts Integrated Curriculum, the students of St. Mary Star of the Sea enjoy many extra-curricular activities. These include band, scouting, sports, Student Council, after school tutoring, and clubs, such as the running club and Lego club. The students participate in service projects that benefit the school and community. We also have an extended day program for students to enjoy time after school to complete homework, play games, or socialize at the school playground in a supervised, secure environment.
Over previous decades, the Archdiocese of Chicago and St. Mary’s Parish have significantly supported the cost of educating enrolled students. Just as economic hardships have fallen on many families, they too, have been impacted. St. Mary’s needs your help to continue to provide a strong, Catholic education to children in a neighborhood where public schools are abundant, but not always the first choice for parents. We have acquired a significant amount of debt. By lowering this debt, we will insure our mission of providing a Catholic education into the future.
At St. Mary Star of the Sea, we are a family; past, present, and future. We love our school and our community. Our bonds cross generations and extend across the nation. Your donation supports our drive to remain a viable school in the Archdiocese of Chicago and allows us to keep our family together. A donation to reduce our debt would solidify our future as the Archdiocese looks to close schools that are not self-sustaining.
As we continue into the 2014-2015 school year and look forward to next fall, we ask that you invest in our future and become part of the St. Mary Star of the Sea family. Thank you for reading our story. We hope to gain your support.

Being that not only did BOTH of our daughters ( @Adrienne_Elizabeth /class of 2002 and @Allie_Zeleznak /class of 2004 ) matriculate from St. Mary Star of the Sea School, AS DID numerous cousins of @Patti_Zubek_Zeleznak (mother's maiden name @Falborski and maternal aunt Irene married name @Figura ), but ALSO PZZ was employed at SMSS Parish AND School concurrently as both the Parish Music Director/Organist/Choir & Cantor Trainer AND School Music Educator K-8 in the early 1990s, I would absolutely WANT to donate/support this very worthwhile charitable effort - however, finances have very recently been decimated by traumatic, unforseen job loss and as such/at present time, such a donation is sadly not possible, very chagrinedly so :( This is not to say that we would be adverse to making such a donation in as nearest a future opportunity to do so 'when' those financial constraints are once more negated/nullified, as that is the furthest statement from the truth completely. We pray to St. Mary, Star of the Sea that this charitable enterprise be as financially successful as possible, so that SMSS can continue to turn out well-educated, very capable students going on to high school, college/university and beyond, who will be able to make their own 'great marks' in society based in part
