Hello. My name is Steve Newton and I am a parapalegic clinical psychologist who has spent my whole life working to help children and families in their moments of need. Right now, I am in need of assistance to pay extraordinary medical bills, keep my business alive, stay in my home, and regain my financial footing.
In September of 2013, I was hiking in Mendocino and fell from a cliff. I was in the hospital for three months and in-patient rehabilitation for five months. Since then, I have had nine additional surgeries. I am a paraplegic who will not walk again. I am not bitter or angry, but I can't manage things without help.
As a result of my injuries, I have not been able to work at various points over the past two and a half years and now can only work a few hours a day; as much of my day must be spent resting in bed due to complications from my paralysis. My medical bills have grown close to $50,000 - and I recently suffered an additional financial set-back due to a brief, but expensive, hospitalization.
It is now clear to me that without help, I will have to close my business and sell my house which was remodeled specifically to accommodate my physical limitations. This idea is devastating to me, so I am turning to you and asking for help. My work is my passion and my home is my family's sanctuary, where I live with my wife, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchilden, who are all amazing caregivers and pillars of support.
Any collected funds will be used solely to pay bills. With your help, I can preserve my business and continue serving the families and individuals I care so deeply about. This is my life and I love what I do. Funds are needed now in order for me to continue practicing and renew my family’s economic independence.
I feel blessed to have been in a position to serve my community for years and humbled by and grateful for the community support I have, in turn, received. These last few years have given me and my family so many opportunities to witness the love and kindness of our family, friends, neighbors, and strangers.
I am thankful for whatever you can do. My need is great, but I know help is out there. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Please share it.
