Steve Stroke Fund

My father, Steve Houghton, is a hardworking family man,  pillar of the community, an avid churchgoing christian, youth club organiser and tech whizz. Working for an insurance company providing help to non-profits such as charities and churches, my dad spends as much time as he can helping others, including my disabled mum, often to the detriment of himself.  He always has time for peoples problems, no matter how small.

Unfortunately, he was recently diagnosed with heart problems, and had to undergo invasive surgery to repair a damaged valve. He came through with flying colours and all looked well until the next morning when it became clear that he had suffered a stroke that affected large parts of the right hand side of his brain. 

He is currently in intensive care in Brighton, East Sussex, and fighting for his life. His family have come from far and wide, some from abroad, to stand with him in his time of need. Whilst things are progressing, slowly and steadily for the better, the reality of visiting him, and of taking time off work, has very real costs and we estimate it has cost around £1000 in accommodation charges for my mother, who has a variant of chronic fatigue syndrome, parking charges and food.

These costs are not expected to be ongoing or increase, as Steve is stable enough for less constant visitation (although we will be trying as much as possible to see him) so any donation that you can provide to alleviate this short term cost will be appreciated. Any excess of the amount stated will also be used to support Steve in post-care rehabilitation and to deal with the eventuality that he may lose his employment due to his condition.
