Bee Blest: nonprofit startup for a better world

Donation protected
BEE BLEST  is a  newly launched, Sheffield based, not-for-profit social enterprise.

"WE WORK WITH HONEY BEES TO HELP LIFT PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY"

My love of bees was inspired by my Dad and Grandad who were beekeepers. I have a passion to see people empowered whoever they are. After retiring early from General Practice and with new circumstances allowing this,  I was able to bring beekeeping (to which I am still quite new), working outdoors with disadvantaged people and supporting the world's poor all together through this enterprise. We can all be workers for a better world but let us not forget that the hardest workers are the honey bees themselves!

All profits from sales of pure local honey go either to help start up sustainable beekeeping in the Third World, enabling poor communities become more self sufficient, such as one in Rwanda we have already supported.....

.....or to develop and maintain beekeeping and allied projects at the apiary site, overlooking Rivelin valley in Sheffield, where disadvantaged and marginalised people are helped both to survive and also given a chance to thrive through working outdoors, making friends and developing new skills.

Polish Marek who is 47 and a dry alcoholic is suffering with depression.
He says: "Most of the time I stay at home in bed for a long time. That is a problem and very often you feel down.  A bit of activity is good for me.  I feel better when I have done something at the apiary."

23 year old local Brad says: "I was stuck in my house all the time with mental health issues, including fear, and all sorts of problems. When my outlook changed I got in touch with Bee Blest to be out of the house, meet new people and have a positive impact on the environment. Being able to get out and be in nature gives me a break and allows me to be more mindful, focussing on something else that’s important to me, such as looking after bees and the land, when we get there.  Being involved has given me a bigger outlook and helped me see the bigger picture."

The apiary site, which overlooks Rivelin Valley and where we already have four thriving hives and a cabin,  needs to be made safe for volunteers, through building some steps and a timberdeck.

We also plan to turn this overgrown field into an orchard by next Spring.

As we now have no honey left to sell to provide funds for these urgent startup projects we are grateful for your consideration and donation which will go towards equipment and materials.

Many thanks, and

Bee Blest!
