Seedling Soul is a sole creation of mine that began in 2015 when I was diagnosed with mental illnesses (GAD and AN with co-morbid depression.) I started an account on Instagram (under the tag of @seedlingsoul) to seek support and join the expansive community surrounding mental health and recovery on the popular photo-sharing social media platform. It served initially as a way to reach out to others suffering from mental or chronic illness(es) as well as a way to journal and recount my own journey. Once my followers reached the 1.5K mark, I began to see potential for Seedling Soul to expand in order to become a multi-faceted support network. So I have made the decision to register the business and to launch a website on Squarespace for peer mentoring, forum-based discussion, blogging, recipe-creation and ideally collaboration or interviews with other like-minded individuals and companies.
However, this has all been out of my own pocket, making things a little more stressful than i had originally intended.
Due to being unemployed, as of November last year when I had to quit an abusive full-time job after it saw the quick deterioration of my own mental health, I have not had any regular income of funds. Dealing with a mental illness in general is not cheap either when you have regular appointments with a range of professionals. To put the cherry on top, I also ended up losing $900 last year in a phone scam that the seller refused to refund.
Long story short; money is tight but my ambitions are large. I want this network to break down the boundaries and barriers society has put up around mental health. Mental illness is on the rise. ‘Health’ fads and diet culture are destroying lives. Suicide is far too prevalent.
We NEED to talk and it’s either NOW or never!
Any help and support you could offer would mean more than the world! It would mean that this small little seedling of hope could potentially grow into an entire forest.
