StarterCorps Community Grant Match

One of the greatest problems startup companies in Orlando face is the lack of capital. In 2013, Florida ranked 18th in the nation for total amount of seed capital invested in startup companies.

We plan to change that.  That’s why we want to create StarterCorps, a seed fund and second-stage accelerator.

Hopefully by now you've heard about  Starter Studio, Orlando’s first technical accelerator.   Starter Studio has run two classes, with a third scheduled to begin in January. In our program starters learn how to build and scale successful businesses, how to hire and lead high-performing teams, and what funding sources are available to them.

The problem is, there aren’t many. Without additional investment opportunities here in Orlando, startups won’t have the same opportunities as those in established startup hubs around the country.

That’s why we need StarterCorps, a seed fund and second-stage accelerator we would like to create with the help of a $250,000 Economic Development Agency grant.

However, we face a serious challenge.  In order to apply for the grant we need match funds. That’s why we’re calling on our community to help make this plan a reality. We are exploring all avenues- business, civic, and educational- to pull together the resources to establish a new source of early-stage funding for our startup companies, increasing their opportunity for success.

This has broad implications for the future of technology in Orlando and the future economy of our City. We hope you’ll help us.
