Hello, my name is Aidan Boushell. I am a Life scout in BSA Troop 762, in El Segundo, California. As a Life scout, the next step of my scouting journey is completing a service project to demonstrate the skills I have acquired throughout my scouting experience. I am currently trying to raise money for The Matthew McCormick Memorial Garden. My budget is $2,000, but the Knights of Columbus (Queen of Martyrs Council 4567) graciously donated $1,000. Now I am asking for $1,125 because I would like to have some extra funds* to donate to STAR once the project is complete.
STAR Homes Inc. is a home for developmentally and intellectually challenged/differently-abled adults. STAR has three homes in the South Bay area. STAR House One (the first home), which houses most of the male residents, needs some fixing up in the backyard. Matthew McCormick was a Life scout in El Segundo (Troop 762) and wanted to make that happen as his Eagle project. Before he could complete his Eagle Project, he tragically died. Now, fourteen years later, I am completing the unstarted project as my Eagle project.
I picked doing my Eagle project at STAR Inc. because it has been in my life ever since I could stand up. Since the age of four, I have been fundraising for STAR Inc. on Tootsie Roll Sunday with the Knights of Columbus (Queen of Martyrs Council 4567) annually. STAR Inc. has a very big place in my heart, especially because I have met and gotten to know many of the residents.
Project Details: The Matthew McCormick Memorial Garden is a backyard beautification project for STAR Homes Inc. The project will be comprised of cleaning up the backyard, removing excessive and overgrown vegetation, planting two new trees, plants new hedges (as needed), inserting a memorial plaque, inserting lighting (for entertaining), building two adirondack chairs, and purchasing a handmade cornhole set (for future entertaining). The project is expected to take two/three days. Day one will be at the El Segundo Scout House in the morning, we will be staining the adirondack chairs and cornhole and discussing the plans of days two and three. Day two will be at STAR House One, we will be removing old/overgrown plants, inserting edging, planting trees, and inserting lighting. Day three will be at STAR House One, we will be assembling the adirondack chairs and completing any unfinished work from the previous days.
