Star eQuality Academy offers academic and arts enrichment to students with special needs.
Jennifer Sundell, our founding owner, is a dynamic, passionately student-centered educator with 18 years experience, a BA in Music Theatre, a clear Educational Specialist credential, and two Masters degrees; an M.A. in Special Education and a dual credential & M.S. in Educational Administration.
Since the turn of the century, Sundell has been working with moderate/severe students & students with emotional disturbance in both homes and special education classrooms across California. During that decade and a half, Sundell has consistently seen two things:
-the school system continues to fail to progress with the society it is tasked to educate
-the academic prowess of differently-abled students in special education classrooms is dramatically underestimated.
Rigorous standards directly paired with financial gains and consequences have forced teachers to sacrifice essential teaching elements including the freedom to teach at the pace of the learners, most (if not all) areas of art, and lessons in citizenship and empathy in favor of the mastery of concepts relevant to standardized tests. IEPs for students in special education programs allow too many teachers to limit their instruction to the narrow scope of skills being data tracked in the classroom; even with specialized curriculums being developed and implemented.
There is no one to blame. At this point, we need solutions.
Star eQuality Academy seeks to provide the academic and arts enrichment that your child is not receiving in the daily classroom. Whether your special learner would benefit from academic tutoring, performance lessons such as singing or dance, instrumental lessons across a wide variety of instruments, or fundamental visual arts lessons including painting, woodworking, paper crafts, or fabrics; Star eQuality Academy has the expert educators to enhance your child's overall growth.
In order to provide this incredibly needed service, we need start up monies! Our founding team of educators are, in fact, public school educators; which in Orange County means we already live paycheck to paycheck--even with a combined 25 years experience and multiple advanced degrees.
While our ultimate goal is $10,000, our immediate need ranges just under $1000. Reaching this initial goal will allow us to launch our domain name, www.starequalityacademy.net, purchase needed materials, and offset the cost of mileage for our educators.
To our donors who gave to our previous attempt to open a performance-specific program for differently-abled artists, THANK YOU!! Your generosity allowed us to retain ownership of our business name and start getting our name out into the local community. We would not be ready to take this next step without you!!
