Raising for Roy: The King of Hearts

Renowned Hawaii artist Roy Venters needs your help! The extremely creative and humble artist, who for decades has been at the forefront of the artistic transformation of Chinatown has fallen on some serious health issues and has been silently struggling for over a year—and it has almost cost him his life.
In the past year Roy battled bronchitis followed by shingles and then was forced to move out of his home with 12 days notice. Whilst moving Roy got a hernia that left him unable to move; living and sleeping in a wheelchair. By staying stationary while trying to make ends meet, Roy got an infection that led to a serious case of Staphylococcus that infected his entire body and had him almost die before being admitted to the hospital where he is now recovering.
Although as always Roy is in good spirits, he is very weak. The hospital needs to do more tests to pinpoint the remaining health issues as well as treat the hernia, but in order to do this the tests require anesthesia which will put Roy unconscious, and they are afraid that Roy is too weak to come back.
So he has to get strong physically. And he cannot do this without a home or small amount of funds to support him.
Currently he has nothing, and without our help this Chinatown legend and community organizer could pass away.
We have decided to create this page to reach out to the Honolulu art community because Roy needs our help and he would never ask for it. With the sense of community Roy has instilled in the Honolulu art scene for years, devoting his life to the arts, it’s the least we can do.
No donation is too small, every little bit counts!One hundred percent of the funds raised will go directly to Roy and getting him housing in order to heal. Let’s help a friend in need.
