Remembrance 6K Walk  For Our Hero  Baby Gabriel Alex
Help Make A Difference

Our beautiful boy was born sleeping on 22nd July 2017 his birth date full term at 40 weeks. Our little boy had a chromosomal disorder, Trisomy 18 also known as Edwards Syndrome. This is a life limiting condition.  It is not hereditary.

Please read and share our little boy’s story as we are so proud of our Son and his short little life. By sharing our story and raising awareness about special trisomy babies we feel we might be able to help some parents out there finding themselves on a very difficult and heart breaking journey like ours. We want everyone to know about our Son Gabriel Alex and his special story. We want his memory to live on forever.  We also want to raise awareness for Féileacáin, a charity that reaches out to so many parents experiencing huge grief and suffering, yet very few people know about this charity and its enormous impact.

We are holding a Special Remembrance  6K Walk followed by a Monster Draw in Hotel Newport on Sunday May 27th to raise much needed funds for an amazing charity called Féileacháin, which was such a huge support to us at such a difficult and heartbreaking time in our lives.

Féileacáin (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Association of Ireland – SANDAI) is a newly formed, not for profit organisation that aims to offer support to anyone affected by the death of a baby during pregnancy or shortly after.  This amazing charity helps parents like us by offering support and guidance at such a difficult time in a couple’s life.

From the very start of our journey Féileacáin have been there for us, they donated a memory box for our baby boy.

This is our very special and cherished box of memories.

Féileacáin sent it to us encouraging us in our own time to try to make as many memories as we could.Gabriel’s wrist band, a lock of his hair stored in a special little box provided,2 forever teddy’s.One teddy for Gabriel Alex which he kept close to him in his cuddle cot and one for his Mammy and Daddy. When Gabriel Alex was 30 weeks old, we had a 4D scan and so we found out that we were having a precious son. That day we bought two special blue blankets and 2 special blue teddies. We got Gabriel Alex’s name embroidered on all of them. From that day on at night time we always cuddled into these when we were singing to our Son and reading him his special bedtime stories.

When Gabriel Alex was born he was wrapped in his own special blanket with his own blue teddy.

On his final journey, we swapped over his blanket and teddy so he would always have our scent and likewise with his special scent which we will hold in our hearts forever. His little blanket and teddy are with us every night.

The memory box we received from Féileacháin was an amazing gift of comfort.

Although we have memories of our Son scattered throughout the house, we often open our Son’s Memory box with all his stories and special things to bring us right back.

Féileacáin supported us on our journey. They even offered to send us on a camera and memory stick. But we were  taking lots of photos ourselves since very early on our journey and we often recorded clips of special days on our camcorder.

Féileacáin encouraged us to take photos and to make as many memories as we could.

Féileacáin had also provided a finger/foot printing kit in the box to use to take Gabriel’s hand and footprints. Close friends also gave us a clay moulding kit to use to take Gabriel’s footprints which worked out amazingly and we now have them framed on our wall in our home and we will cherish these forever.

We were sent a personalised candle for our Son that burns brightly on many special occasions. We were also sent a hand knitted white blanket knitted by other bereaved parents with love especially for our little boy.

Féileacáin also reassured us that they would organise for a Cuddle Cot or Cold Cot to be sent to Mayo General Hospital so we could bring Gabriel Alex home.

Thankfully we are blessed in Mayo General through amazing fundraising events to have 2 cuddle cots available to bereaved parents like us. This is due to the extensive fundraising carried out by truly amazing families whose angels were too special for this world.

This charity helped us a great amount throughout our very difficult journey. They are extraordinary and truly inspirational people and an amazing charity.

Any money donated in Gabriel’s memory will go straight to Féileacáin. This money will give other parents  who will sadly find themselves bereaved by Stillbirth or Neonatal death the support that they will so desperately need.It will allow them the chance to make as many special memories as they possibly can in the short time they have with their babies.

Each Memory Box costs 40 euro.

40 euro to provide bereaved parents with an amazing gift that they will cherish forever.

There is a huge shortage of cuddle cots in many maternity hospitals throughout the country. Many hospitals do not have a cuddle cot available to bereaved parents.

The cuddle cot allowed us to take Gabriel Alex home with us so we could extend those precious moments and memories.

There is never enough time to say Goodbye but I could not imagine the pain if we did not have this special cold cot to bring our little Angel home in.

Please help to raise awareness about this truly Amazing Charity. The more people that know about Féileacáin, the greater their impact.

Thanks in advance for your generosity.

Please feel free to share our story and donate to this truly amazing Charity Féileacáin.
