Sponsoring Cordelia

Tax deductible
Patriot Service Dogs, Inc. (PSD) trains and provides service dogs to our military veterans who have medical, psychiatric, or mobility disabilities.  Patriot Service Dogs is a 501(c)3 non-profit and an all volunteer organization based in north Florida that has been providing service dogs to disabled military veterans free of charge (and nationwide) since 2009. The PSD dogs are trained for 24 months, learning over 80 commands to prepare them for their permanent veteran partner. Highly trained service dogs are life-changing motivators for so many veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country.

My year of involvement as a volunteer with Patriot Service Dogs, Inc. (PSD) has been one of the most rewarding endeavors I’ve undertaken.  I was involved as a fundraiser with PSD for 6 months when a litter of 5 Labrador puppies arrived during our fundraiser.  I made the commitment to become a “puppy raiser”.  As a “puppy raiser”, I mentor, train and work with the puppy in my home to prepare her to be of service to her permanent veteran partner.

I was an Army Nurse from 1985-1991.  In 1997, I sustained a severe traumatic brain injury and became permanently disabled.  Until now, no activity has given me the amount of satisfaction I felt as a nurse.  My involvement with Patriot Service Dogs has been life-changing, restoring my sense of purpose, knowing I’m able to give back to those who have served our nation.

Most puppies are “sponsored” before they are placed with their “puppy raiser” and they are named by the sponsor.  All costs for training, supplies, food, and medical care come from this critical “sponsorship” which is $2500. In addition to being a “puppy raiser”, I am also the sponsor for the puppy, Cordelia, which is a significant financial commitment. She is now over a year old, proving herself perfect for the service dog training she has begun. She is a fast-learner and enjoys performing the tasks she has learned so far. Currently retrieving and carrying items make her the happiest.

What's in a name? Cordelia means Heart.  A service dog's name needs to be one that is distinguished and not common. Cordelia is named after Cordelia Cook, an Army combat nurse during WWII. She is one of the top 10 women who shaped military history, being the 1st female to receive the bronze star and later a purple heart.

You can become a part of Cordelia’s sponsorship by making a tax-deductible contribution to Patriot Service Dogs, Inc. through Cordelia's page: www.gofundme.com/sponsorCordelia

I will be updating Cordelia’s page monthly so you can keep track of her journey. I hope you will consider how significant a small contribution can be toward the $2500 needed that will bring Cordelia and her military veteran together. It will help me to complete my journey with Cordelia so that she can fulfill the needs of a deserving veteran.
