ENGLISH VERSION

My name is Philo Cohen.

Two years and a half ago, I started my online magazine Speciwomen  with the goal to change the representation of women in the art world.

During those years, I have interviewed women of all ages, from all over the world, and built an archive of voices. I constantly push myself to re-think and re-define the space I have created in order to make it as safe and diverse as possible.

Since it started, Speciwomen has been growing at high speed. In the past year, we re-designed the website, and created new features in order to grow as an intersectional and innovative platform.

While we live in a generation where our lives belong online, and that I feel like time never stops, I’d like to create an object that would allow the future readers of Speciwomen magazine to understand the different steps of the story.

I’d like to launch Speciwomen Magazine as an annual independent printed publication.

Making a printed issue of Speciwomen will not only allow the project to be brought to its next step, but also to push its boundaries, and the ones of the women whose work the magazine represents.

As an artist myself, I engage strongly with printed material when discovering new artists’ works. I would like to be able to convey similar feelings to other people by creating a printed object that will portray a curated chunk of who and what Speciwomen Magazine features.

Moreover, while online is a wide field in which one does not always know who they reach, I’d be able to work more locally with bookstores, museums, galleries, and fairs in order to show Speciwomen magazine under another light, to a new audience.

If, like me, you consider that women deserve a better representation in the art world and more spaces to voice their opinions.

Je m’appelle Philo Cohen.

Il y a deux ans et demi, je lançais mon magazine en ligne Speciwomen avec comme but de changer la représentation des femmes dans le monde de l’art.

Pendant ces années, j’ai interviewé des femmes de tout âge, venant de partout dans le monde, et ai construit une archive de voix et d’opinions.

Je me pousse toujours à penser plus loin, et re-définir cette espace que j’ai créé pour être sure qu’il inspire confiance, et que tout le monde y trouve sa place.

Depuis le début, Speciwomen grandit à vitesse grand V. L’année dernière, nous avons complètement re-développé le design du site, et créé plus de sections qui nous permettent de grandir en tant que plate-forme inclusive et innovative.

Bien je fasse partie de la génération qui vit et développe tout par internet, et que j’ai l’impression que le temps ne s’arrête jamais, j’aimerais créé un objet qui permettrait au futures lecteurs•ices de Speciwomen Magazine de comprendre les différentes étapes de notre histoire.

J’aimerais lancé Speciwomen Magazine en tant que publication papier, annuelle et indépendante.

Avoir une édition papier de Speciwomen ne permettrait pas seulement au projet d’évoluer, mais cela repousserait aussi ses limites, et celles des femmes dont le travail est représenté par le magazine.

En tant qu’artiste, j’aime particulièrement interagir avec un objet imprimé lorsque je découvre le travail d’un nouvel artiste.

J’aimerais pouvoir communiquer un sentiment similaire aux lecteurs en créant un objet qui représenterait une sélection de qui et quoi font parti•es de Speciwomen Magazine.

De plus, alors qu’Internet est un champ très vaste dans lequel personne ne sait vraiment qui ils touchent, j’aurais l’opportunité de travailler avec des librairies, musées, galeries, et foires qui me permettraient de montrer Speciwomen Magazine sous un nouvel angle, à un nouveau public.

Si, comme moi, vous considérez que les femmes méritent une meilleure représentation dans le monde de l’art et plus d’espaces pour s’exprimer…

Avec votre aide, nous pourrions officiellement lancé l’édition imprimée de Speciwomen le 14 juin. Pour l’occasion, nous aimerions organiser un group show à New York dans lequel les travaux d’artistes du magazine seraient exposés.
