Special Fund for a Special Puppy

Hi! My name is Joey! I am a happy-go-not-so-lucky lab pup. My leg was broken when I was about 3 weeks old. At 6 weeks old I was dumped in a night box at a shelter. The shelter didn’t have any money to help me, so I waited and hoped that someone would come and get me. Two long painful weeks went by and finally a nice lady from 3R Rescue in Winters, CA came to get us. I love my new friends at the rescue.

Initially they thought my leg would be a simple fix and I would be back to doing all the things that normal pups do. However, now the doctors say my case is complicated because I am still growing, and my leg is broken in several places. To date, my friends at 3R have spent more than $2000, and the bills keep coming. My veterinarian has recommended swim therapy and acupuncture. Swimming is OK because I love the water anyway. Needles, on the other hand, we will have to see. In addition, we need to raise money for everything that lies ahead, pre-surgery care and therapy, surgery(ies), post-surgery care, and medications.

From a 3R Rescue Volunteer:  Joey is a wonderful, kind, smart and loving pup with an amazing spirit. His journey so far has been long and will continue for some time. This little boy is truly an inspiration to all of us.  Under the advice of our wonderful veterinarians, Joey is learning to walk with assistance and in a way that protects not only his injured leg but his healthy leg also. He also is continuing his puppy training and learning all his basic commands.

3R Rescue’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home animals in need of a second chance. They are provided medical care, quality nutrition and the opportunity to de-stress and socialize in a home environment, enabling them to be 'good citizens' in their new life.

3R rescues dogs from rural and under-sourced shelters that do not have adequate medical support, staff or facilities and few potential adopters coming to the shelter. Euthanasia rates at these shelters are extremely high (as much as 80-90%). Many of our dogs come directly off the euthanasia list or from the kill room. Some, like Joey, are in need of immediate medical care.

We are committed to giving Joey all the help he needs. No donation is too small. We are grateful for your help and appreciate your generosity.
