Sophie's Tough Mudder Fundraiser
I am running a 10 mile tough mudder in July to raise money for Diabetes UK - a charity that is close to my heart and that I believe deserves more recognition and funding.
There is a huge stigma around diabetes, and the disease is often assumed to only to correlate with having an unhealthy lifestyle - when this is far from the case.
Through my campaign I am hoping to raise awareness and educate others about the different main types of diabetes and to raise money to go towards funding research and treatment for all types of diabetes.
What is Diabetes?
Diabetes
Diabetes is a disease that affects the body's ability to produce
insulin (the hormone that helps control our blood sugar levels).
What are the Two Types of Diabetes?
Type 1 diabetes is an incurable, life long condition where the body's immune system attacks the cells in the pancreas that create insulin. The cause for this type of diabetes is still unknown and it appears for no reason at all. About 10% of diabetics are type 1, making it a fairly rare condition.
Type 2 diabetes is also linked to the body having difficulty producing
or absorbing insulin, meaning blood sugar levels are not being sufficiently controlled. There is no exact cause for Type 2 diabetes, however genetics and lifestyle play a large role. Type two diabetes often surfaces in the over 40s.

Any donation is appreciated!
Now just wish me luck with the run.... and the mud.... and ice water....and electrocution.....
