Sophie's Stay at Sick Kids

Sophie Grace Torrance was born on December 12, 2018 to adoring parents Sam and Kyle.  At one week old she went for a regular doctor's visit, and ended up in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa.  A few weeks later at CHEO Sophie was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called Microvillus Inclusion Disease. It is commonly understood as intestinal failure; Sophie isn't able to digest food and will need to get her nutrients through an IV for life.  The family learned this would take specialized care, so
shortly after the diagnosis this brave beautiful little girl took her first flight on an ORNGE Ambulance plane to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto.  Sophie will be staying at at Sick Kids for a least a few more months, where she will get specialized care, and Mom and Dad will learn how to continue to care for her and feed her intravenously once she's home. 


Donations to the campaign will contribute to the cost of the Torrance family being split between Ottawa and Toronto; gas for long drives, train trips, accommodations at Ronald McDonald House and eventually medical equipment and supplies for the future.  This GoFundMe was inspired by an outpouring of generosity from family and friends in the past few weeks asking how they could help; Sam Kyle and Sophie are so grateful for the support.
We will keep the love going by sharing photos and updates as Sophie continues to show us what true Girl Power really looks like!
