Sophia Jackson is attempting to complete an MDiv at Pacific School of Religion full time. Due to recent circumstances, urgent help is needed in order to meet the financial requirments to remain in school and in school housing. A letter to to community:
You are receiving this note from me as a matter of urgency. As you know I am currently enrolled and continuing my education in a Master degree program for Divinity. What does this mean? I am studying so that I can become ordained, but first and foremost, I am continuing my education so that I can do the commissioned work of Christ toward justice for all people.
While I understand that I don’t have to be in school to do this, God in all infinite wisdom has sent me into the space of academia to disrupt the traditional narrative of privilege that still exists within the hallowed halls of seminaries across the culture; I am at the crossroads of intersectionality where God is equipping me to speak truth to power.
Recently I have come against many challenges; chief among them is financial. I am unable to work to sustain myself and as such my financial aid only stretches so far. To date I have been able to make it based on federal aid and what little savings I had amassed, but unfortunately money has run out and I am desperately behind in many of my bills.
The long and short of it is that I NEED HELP! I placed emphasis here because asking for help is one of the hardest things for me to do; I have taken care of myself and others for so long that this foreign stretch of my journey has become mentally taxing and draining in ways that I never knew possible.
If you know anything about me then you may perhaps know that I don’t publicize my condition, but today something hit me and that was the true fact that I have to humble myself; I have to ask; and I have to trust just as much as I have always poured in can be returned…not because I looked for it, but because God said that my willingness and obedience to walk in His will would be rewarded.
I have no amount to quantify my needs right now, but know that my need is great and anything I receive will be a blessing. If you are so inclined, financial donations are what is most needed, but if that is a problem then I have a list of books that are needed that are not available in the library and even if they were I would be unable to utilize them with my learning style; highlighting, writing in margins and so on. Please know that this is not easy for me, and perhaps it shouldn’t be, however, I do not think that the suffering I am encountering as a result of this dilemma edifies God in any way and it certainly is not healthy for me.
If you can please help me in whatever way you can as I am not only asking because of my personal concerns, my financial aid is not covering this semester and I am in debt to the school as a result. This means that I cannot register or participate in some of the mandatory requirements for my degree or pay what is left of my housing which means they can disrupt my progressing.
I want to thank you for considering me in advance and thank you for being in my life in whatever capacity that you are.
