Help Sophia Kaplanis beat Cancer

Update

Latest update:

I wish I had better news to convey about no longer needing to ask for further donations, but unfortunately this is not the case at this time. Earlier last year, Sophia showed great progress after her chemo and radiation treatments. She had returned to her beloved Norte Dame high school and was back into being a teenage girl again. But after returning to St. Jude’s for a follow up to check on her progress, they have found a recurrence of cancer in her lymph nodes and lungs.

Sophia, her mother Kristina and brother Athanasios have all gone back to St. Jude’s and as of 3/29/18, Sophia has started chemo once more. We all know that with all the prayers and best wishes, plus the grace of God, that she will once more beat this horrible disease and come back to her friends and family here in California. We hope to be able to raise more funds for Kristina and Athanasios to be able to stay with Sophia for her whole treatment and for her father Yianni to be able to join them as much as possible.

Right before her family trip to Greece in July of 2016, Sophia Kaplanis was diagnosed with a rare muscle/bone cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. Like a true warrior Sophia has taken the diagnosis and treatment with amazing grace, strength and courage. With a positive attitude and an amazing heart warming smile she will beat this disease! Sophia has been a part of the St. Nicholas Northridge family since she was a baby, and has been involved with the Greek dance program from an early age. Not being able to compete with her dance group this year at FDF has left a tremendous void.

Sophia and her mother Kristina, have been at the Saint Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee since October 2016. Her father Yianni and brother Athanasios, have remained in California, but visit often to offer support and encouragement. Sophia is thankfully making tremendous progress, but will be staying at Saint Jude's for at least one more calendar year for additional treatments.

All of us at Saint Nicholas are interested in helping assist the family with travel expenses, and other associated costs for Sophia's treatment. We hope and pray that we can reach beyond the walls and hearts of the St. Nicholas community, and encourage other faithful friends, with gracious hearts, to offer some financial assistance to help this beloved family in this most difficult time. Please keep the Kaplanis family in your prayers and may our Lord, Jesus Christ, continue to bless these sweet, devout people.
