Animal rescuer will lose his home
My name is Jack Smoluk and I’ve set up this Gofundme page with the hope of being able to keep a friend and his animals from becoming homeless. It is urgent as I’m not even sure he’ll make the bills for next month. I’ll try to make this brief but I’m sure it won’t be. There are many things I want to say about him.
Here is the thing though, this is supposed to be a surprise because I know him, he’s extremely proud, never asks for help despite that he helps others. He would be very ashamed if the people around him found out that he needs help. He’ll be asked to pull people out of the ditch and jumpstart others all the time, most don’t even say thank you but he never takes a dime. There is this old lady that’s scared to go home at night so he follows her home several nights a week.
(Picture above is from a dog get together and he had this thing made for his dog to get people to adopt rather than to buy.)
His health is very bad and he’s at risk for heart problems. He’s a diabetic and just about immobile.
No health insurance of course and no government help.
Pride is a strange thing. There is pride in doing something well and then theirs is being too proud to ask for help. He is the latter. He won’t ask for help and he’s really, really embarrassed by it.
He has been rescuing animals for over 15 years now and I’ll post pictures of some of the animals he’s had or still has.IF he gets thrown out, he’ll of course have nowhere else to go. He’ll lose all his possessions and his dogs will have to go the pound. Those who know, know that these days, it’s extremely hard to find homes for dogs, especially older dogs. His dogs are all rescues and he also has four cats that he’s taking care of.
Also, for the bikers out there, he is or was one of you. He’s had to sell his bikes to pay the bills though.
I have been his friend for almost 20 years and I’ve done his tax returns (I'm a CPA) for many years and I know how little he makes and how much he gives. He makes $9,000 a year, that’s it. No other income. He has to sell things around the house to make extra money and occasionally, someone pays him back a little money that they owe him. Despite this, he has averaged 3-5% of his yearly income in donations to animal rescues and occasionally environmental causes.
I urge people that are interested in helping but have doubts or need more info to please write me by clicking on the contact icon (envelope).
I’m in the middle of tax season at the time of writing this but I’ll reply as fast as I can with the information you may want, including where he donates, his health, condition of his house, what’s needed, etc. His house needs quite a few repairs, his only vehicle needs $3000 worth of repairs and my absolute goal is to pay his house off. I don’t know how this works but I will start by asking for around half of what his house would cost to pay off which is around $50k. Should he manage to pay it off and get rid of his mortgage, he should be able to stay afloat with what he makes now.
Last year he sponsored a catch and release program and paid for 5 cats to be spayed/neutered which he caught. He had to stop due to lack of funds. None of the people in the area offered any help.
Will you please help me keep him and his animals from becoming homeless and going to the pound?
All the animals that have died while in his care have grown to be very old with a Rottie at 12 years and a big Great Dane at almost 11. He’s had them cremated so that we can spread his ashes together with his animals in the mountains (IF it is allowed).
