Socks for the Winter

Donation protected
I, along with other students at the George Washington University, am raising money to buy socks for Miriam's Kitchen. D.C. has the highest rate of homelessness in the U.S. with 7,000 or 110 per 10,000 people experiencing homelessness. The city is working with groups like Miriam's to solve the issue. Miriam's is an incredible non-profit organization that provides low-barrier support for people experiencing homelessness and circumstances of poverty in the D.C. area. Their ultimate goal is to provide everyone with housing, but before that is fully possible, they are on the front-lines providing much-needed support. One component of their work is their clothing program. Unsurprisingly yet not very commonly known, the greatest need is for socks. D.C. does not have a forgiving climate, especially if one is experiencing homelessness. Extreme weather variability from the hot, rainy and humid summers to the cold, rainy, and snowy winters makes life in an already precarious circumstance, all the more difficult. Especially in the winter, socks are essential for preventing frostbite. The funds will be used to directly buy socks and, money permitting, other undergarments such as underwear and/or thermals. The need is urgent. They run through clothes quite quickly and socks are rarely consistently available. I am not a direct employee of Miriam's but I am a regular volunteer. Thank you for anything you can give.
