Since 2006 Éirígí has consistently challenged inequality, injustice, discrimination, austerity and imperialism across Ireland. We believe that the economy and the political system on both sides of the border have failed the Irish working class. We believe that genuine equality and true justice can only come about when the current economic and political model has been replaced by one that places the needs of the many ahead of the greed of the few.
In other words we believe that Ireland needs a revolution - a peaceful, people's revolution that will bring the reign of the parasite bankers, exploitative bosses, robber corporations and gombeen politicians to an end - a revolution that will end the interference of London, Brussels and Washington in the affairs of the people of Ireland.
Over the last ten years Éirígí activists been to the fore of the battle to keep Ireland's natural resources out of the hands of the private corporations. From the battle in Mayo to prevent Shell robbing the Corrib Gas Field to the ongoing struggle to prevent the privatisation of our water resources, we have a proven track record of directly challenging the corporate takeover of Ireland's natural resources.
For a decade our activists have challenged imperialism in Ireland. We draw no distinction between the imperialist policies that underpin the British occupation of the Six Counties, the US wars of aggression in the Middle East and the Israeli campaign of annihilation of the Palestinian people. From Shannon Airport to Dublin and from Belfast to Wexford our activists have organised numerous events to oppose imperialism and in solidarity with the international victims of that hateful policy.
When the Dublin government bailed out the banks and established NAMA Éirígí was one of the first organisations to get on the streets in opposition to these disastrous policies. Through a series of high-profile protests at Anglo Irish headquarters we gave voice to public opposition to the squandering of tens of billions of euros of public money on failed private businesses. As far back as 2010 we called out the 1%, putting a much-needed spotlight on oligarchs like Denis O'Brien and Tony O'Reilly. In the Six and Twenty-Six Counties we have opposed the austerity agenda of Stormont and Leinster House because they are economically counter-productive and socially destructive.
The new Irish society we hope to help build will be a fair one, based upon a democratic economy, equality and tolerance - a society where your skin colour, religion, sexual preference or ethnicity will be as irrelevant as the colour of your eyes. To this end Éirígí actively challenges sectarianism, racism, misogyny and all other forms of discrimination and bigotry.
Éirígí is an entirely independent, voluntary organisation made up of citizens just like you. Unlike other political parties we don't have the backing of the rich or big business or the private media. We rely entirely on the generosity of our own members and the general public to run our political campaigns. We have no other source of income to support our political activism. Each year we produce and distribute tens of thousands of newsletters, leaflets, banners, posters, stickers and other printed materials. And we organise countless community meetings, commemorations, public talks and protests. Unfortunately all of this activism requires money.
