My team and I are current St. Margrets Episcopal School students, and we started this project in our middle school innovation unit, and when it ended we wanted to take it further. We were hoping that we could make learning fun and easy for people with autism. We wanted to make something never seen before on the app store. Something better. Hence, we made Social A.
Social A is an app, that will be used for teaching kids with autism simple social skills, that are needed for everyday life. There are over 200,000 people affected by autism a year in the United States alone. I personally have a brother with autism and this would be benefitial to them, as it is convenient and much cheaper than other options available today.
Sadly we cannot continue this project much longer without funding. We would love any donations of any amount, as we would like to get this product on the market soon. The app will be free to download, but a monthly subscription fee of $5 a month is required to do this.
I got the inspiration for this project from my brother, Tyler. Tyler was diagnosed with Autism and Fragile X (More info on that here: https://www.friendsforfragilex.org). What I've noticed is that he is very behind in the social aspect of his life. He only gets along with others that have autism or kids that are a few years younger than him. I've always wanted to help him, but I didn't know how, but when my teacher prompted me with a way to heal, fuel, or feed the world, I instantly knew what I wanted to do. My brother spends a lot of time on his iPad, and he knows how to navigate it, so I realized that it was possible to create an app to help him. He lover playing games like temple run where there is not much strategy, but its more of something that you can learn. After making a prototype, I couldn't wait to get it on the App Store, but realized I can't without an advanced knowledge in coding and lots of money for development, both of which I don't have, However with the money I get with this campaign I can start development on the real app and put it in the App Store.
