Sail Newport Public School Sailing

Sail Newport has been teaching kids to sail for over 30 years in Newport, Rhode Island. We are proud to announce a new sailing program for the 4th graders at the Claiborne Pell Elementary School who will attend a program as part of their academic day.  Sailing is a joyful thrilling and healthy outdoor sport.  We have also discovered that learning how to sail also builds a stronger youth by developing self-esteem and important skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship, problem-solving, communication and situational awareness. Children learn how to navigate a boat through wind and on the water, however,  Sail Newport's new program will also integrate science, math, and technology academic elements with the partnership of the Newport public school teachers. In addition, we also know that water is our most valuable resource.  This program will develop new sailors, but we also aim to inspire the young students to become ambassadors of ocean and environmental sustainability.

We are very grateful to already have generous support from donors and we are "Powered by Prince," through a grant from the Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund at Newport Hospital.

$40 provides 1 week of sailing for 1 student
$80 provided 1 week of sailing for 2 students
$160 provides 1 week of sailing for 4 students
$320 sponsors one student for the Fall Session (8 weeks)
$640 sponsors one student for the Fall and Spring sailing sessions (16 weeks)
$7,680 sponsors an entire class of students for the Fall Session
