It beats me to have to share this but like I tell myself its just a process to yet another battle won in Chuks' life. And by God's grace,I declare that "He has won the battle".
HIS STORY...........
My name is Onyekachi Chuks. Popo or ChoCho as many of my friends call me.
..... Sometime in January 2018, I noticed a recurrent tummy bite which at the time I was able to control with meds. 2nd week in February 2018 , on an early Tuesday Morning at about 1:30am,I woke up with the most gruesome abdominal pain , I had to be rushed to the hospital.
The hospital diagnosed ulcer as cause of the severe pain...They commenced treatment for ulcer started treating me for Ulcer.
2 months later, still no relief, instead, it got worse managing it with my day job, I went back again to the hospital and was eventually referred to another hospital.
At the referred hospital, I was diagnosed by a Gastro Enterologist and was required to run couple of tests and scans. After the CT Scan, it was reported that it was Cancer of the pancreas, I was immediately asked to do an MRCP which showed same . To conclude, a liver biopsy was done ,and it confirmed the medical claims (Pancreatic Cancer), which at this time had already spread to the liver.
I was then scheduled to meet with an oncologist to discuss treatment and prognosis, all the oncologist advised an attack of the cancerous cells and after a review, a surgeon was invited to see if there are possibilities of operating on the pancreas.
I am currently on a Chemotherapy and Targeted therapy treatment which I am scheduled to have 6 sessions with series of tests and scans along the process.
Since then, I have been in & out of the hospital.
Because of this,I have not been able to continue working at my job.. I have lost a large amount of body weight and gas out quickly due to low blood count.
I have not been able to sleep for 3months due to the agonizing pains from affected organs.
Unfortunately cancer treatments are quite expensive and as the bills roll in everyday, it has become a challenge meeting up with my financial obligation of taking care of my aged mother, family as well as paying my bills.
I know this is a phase, and I am ready for the battle ,I ask that you kindly lend a hand ,as your contribution which will go a long way in helping me fight the disease.
I m asking that you help make it possible to fulfil my dreams of raising a family and reaching my God -given potential .
MEDICAL BREAKDOWN:
Initial Treatment Type: Chemotherapy, Targeted Therapy and Surgery.
Number of Chemotherapy sessions-6
Completed Session so far-4 (8 cycles)
Frequency of Chemotherapy sessions -Every 3.5weeks
Current location of treatment (for the 4 chemo sessions): Lagos, Nigeria
Name of consultants currently on case:
* Dr. Oyeleke (Gastro Enterologist - Luth)
* Dr. Habeebu (Oncologist - Luth)
* Dr. Chinyere Okoro
Each Session entails: (Chemo,IV drugs, and administrative materials Inclusive & Logistics).
At the course of the treatment: Supporting drugs are required.
Before each session requires: Blood Tests for progression.
After 3rd session complete blood tests and scan requires for progress review.
After review of test and scan results done on the 1st of July 2018, below was deduced;
Clinically, Chuks has shown improvement, however mass in pancreas has slightly increased, involvement in other regions seen and blockages resulting to Jaundice and stomach bloating.
Treatment Urgency- High (alternative plans - to leave country for treatment continuity).
Procedure outside the country:
1. Preliminary test and investigation
2. ERCP (which is not down in Nigeria) & Stenting
3. Chemotherapy (3 cycles within a 3months period) then review for surgery
UPDATED MEDICAL COST
Medical/Administrative/Logistics cost: $40,000
Hospital: BLK Super Specialty Hospital, Dehli / Health Care Global, Bungalow, India.
Timeline for travel: 1st/2nd week in August, 2018
