"I think we found something really special here bro..."
"Don't tell anyone about this wall..!"

Some of the last words Alan Collins and I had before walking away from the Hank Wall after getting to the top and rapping down for the first time.

Two years of work and almost 10 routes later, the Hank Wall now holds 10 new sport routes ranging from 10a to 12d. A summer time wall that is shaded until 1pm,  the Hank Wall is becoming a Smith destination unto its own. A fully established wall with decked out terraces to match, this wall seems to be becoming more popular each season it opens. Just beyond the Hank Wall lies another newly established wall at Smith Rock, Anglin's Buttress.

Anglin's Buttress was recently developed by Dave McRae and Alan Collins this past year in 2016. From an undeveloped wall holding only 1 trad route, Alan and (mainly) Dave went to work and turned this amazing untapped wall into a master piece. By the end of the season 2016, Alan had established a 5.12 entry route at the base of the wall. Dave had also established an entry route on the wall clocking in at 5.11. With Alan's attention mainly focused in the Marsupials, Dave went to work finishing out the wall and establishing two stellar 5.11 5 pitch multi-pitch sport routes, Anglin n Danglin' (5.11) and Jim Climbing (5.11). Just beyond Anglin's Buttress lies a new Smith all together.

For the past 3 years, Alan Collins has been working away developing the Marsupial features at Smith Rock into works of art. With some of the most uniquely shaped features in the park, Alan has forged new routes through some of the best rock at Smith. Over the past 3 years, Alan has managed to establish, or help establish, approximently 30 new routes ranging from 5.10-5.13+. The walls he's developed so far are as follows: The Marsupials Wall, The Philosopher's Stone, and at the moment an unnamed wall that lies in the newly named Trenchtown Gully located at the highest point in the park.

With all of the new development happening at Smith Rock, the hefty price tags that are starting to amount onto all us are starting to be felt. As much love and addiction the three of us have for new routing, it would be really rad to help share that financial burden a bit with the community and users of Smith Rock.
To think each new route can cost in upwards of $70-$100 with fixed chains and anchors, not including any fixed gear. Throw in fixed gear and you're looking at well over $120 per route. Our goal is to have fixed gear on all of the new routes we install and plan to establish in the future..

The plans for any money raised is to be held as a communal fund. Bolts/hangers will be bought in bulk and held to use at the ready.

Any donation that can be made to help further the development and growth of Smith Rock climbing is much appreciated. Thank you!

Sincerely, Chris Hatzai
