Sleeping Giants Lacrosse Club

We are the Sleeping Giants Lacrosse Club (SGLC), a self funded team of students that attend Quinnipiac University. Despite our enrollment with the University, we are unaffiliated with the school. As a result, all of our expenses for the season are paid for out of pocket by the players and their families. We are provided with no help or aid from the school whatsoever. No money, no equipment, no uniforms, no practice facilities, no buses provided for trips, nothing. Undeterred by all of this, we still have managed to be quite a successful team. We have won our league’s conference championship the past two seasons and have had the honor to continue our season and play in the National Championship tournament. Two years ago we traveled to Penn State University and the past year went to Navy in Annapolis, Maryland for Nationals. Although it is an honor to play in these tournaments, the overarching costs for the trips are very daunting. On top of the league fees and costs for uniforms, we have to ask our players to pay additional money for the expenses necessary for the trip. This includes the cost of a bus and driver that we have to rent for the weekend, hotel accommodations for the entire team, and food for the players. As stated before, all of the costs are paid for out of pocket by our hard working players. Our goal is to win a national championship and we are closer than we have ever been.

This season we have the exceptional opportunity to host our first ever home game in program history. Being unaffiliated, we are unable to play games at Quinnipiac University. Since the founding of our team, each and every game has been played away at our opponents’ facilities. We have gotten used to the road trips, but we have yet to have an experience playing in front of a home crowd. This year we are using a portion of the raised money to reserve field time and pay for referees for a game at Hamden Hall, a private school nearby in Hamden, CT. This is an exciting time for the team.
