Skills Development Centre

Katosi Inter-community Development Alliance (KIDA) was formed in 2012 to offer;

--Mentorship activities to youth, women, and families in the areas of development and health awareness (including the prevention of HIV/AIDS).
--Elementary education to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC).
--Vocational skills training for women, girls and youth in general.
--Advocate and promote human and environmental rights.

KIDA's programs are community-driven and aim to develop a healthy, self-sufficient village with access to early education, vocational training, basic health care and sustainable livelihoods.
KIDA observed that it is extremely difficult for a woman in Katosi without an education or a skill to find a job, and thus began the skill enhancement program. KIDA's skills enhancement program provides free training to young, underprivileged women in the areas of tailoring and hairdressing. Women selected for the program attend the one year course for free and at the end attain a certificate. With the skills students learn from our programs, we believe they are ready to start their own businesses. We would love to train as many young/single mothers as possible, but we are only able to admit a small number of the many women in the Katosi community who want a place in our program each year. This is due to our lack of space and equipment.

Having graduated, the women are able to help provide for the needs of themselves and their families. Furthermore, several graduates have gone on to train other local girls who lack the opportunity for an education.  This has brought an even larger impact into the community.
KIDA plans on expanding this program with the purchase of its own land which will be home to not just a more developed skills enhancement program, but to all its other projects as well, including the school for orphans and at risk kids, a youth centre and a volunteers house.

To kickstart this, we are trying to raise $8,000 to finish the purchasing of the land and to begin the construction. Please consider donating and helping to create a change in our small community, any small amount goes a long way! Thank you!
