Toby's SDR operation

Hello!
My name is Toby and I am nearly seven years old. I was born very early in the July, giving my family a bit of a surprise as I wasn’t expected until the October. I was very small and poorly in hospital for three months. My parents were told that I might not survive as my lungs needed lots of help to keep me breathing.
When I was a year old my parents were told I had Cerebral Palsy caused by my early birth. The doctors were unable to say what the long term prognosis would be for me. As I grew up my friends were able to do everything before I could, including sitting, crawling and standing.
I was given lots of equipment to help with my mobility. I have had lots of different treatments to help my legs, BOTOX, serial casting, splints and regular physio at home, nursery and then school and with my physio. I had a special bike which The Variety Club bought for me.
I am very lucky because I have got lots of family and friends who support me and help me. I go to Beavers and have swimming lessons. I try to be as active as I can, but as I get taller and heavier my legs can’t support my weight and I am using my wheelchair more. I am waiting for a new wheelchair which will be easier for me to wheel myself about in.
In March I went to Great Ormond Street Hospital to see if I could have a new treatment now available there. It is called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). It is a big operation, which should reduce the spasticity in my legs and allow me to walk with ease.
Not all CP children are suitable, but I am really pleased that the doctors at GOSH say I am a good candidate and have put me on their waiting list.
Unfortunately very few children get funding from the NHS, so we are having to raise £40,000.
Please help me raise the money I need to run with my friends.
