Skate Ramp for Longfellow Middle
Donation protected
I teach at a school in Berkeley where our students' needs are as diverse as our student population. A large percentage of our students are African American or Latino, along with several Middle Eastern and Asian students. Although our students come from all types of socio-economic backgrounds, they are hardworking and thoughtful learners who together form a wonderful community.
This is the second year we have run a skateboarding club in Longfellow. We have boys and girls of all ages in the club, both novice and experienced. We have been skateboarding in the yard where only flat ground is available to skate. Students are eager to build, create, and skate!
The funding for this project will help us obtain materials needed to build our first ramp. Students will get experience building a ramp from blueprints. They will use mathematics to measure and problem solve when building the ramp, as well as develop teamwork and collaboration skills. They will use this experience to develop a blueprint of their own ramps for our second project.
The students are eager to build a ramp, and the sooner we get funding the sooner we can get started!
