Single mom loses everything in Port Alberni fire

Donation protected
** Update: Monica and Sam will be moving into a fantastic new house on Feb 1st! This home offers them some furnishing and house hold items for their use and they have had many amazing offers of items to help replace what was lost in the fire. As they settle in and get a better idea of what gaps need to be filled to make their home complete as well as all other expenses over the next few months, we (Moni, her brother/my husband and I) have set up a plan to withdraw and send funds to Monica on a monthly basis over the next 6 or 7 months.
They are looking forward to bringing their 3 kitties home with them in a few days and settle in to their new home!!
Thank you to all who have contributed to the campaign and with other offers - Monica and Samantha are so grateful, appreciative and overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from their community, friends, family and many others who heard of their loss through connections to their friends and family!!

On the evening of Jan 8th, Monica came home from picking up her daughter Samantha from dance to see everything they own going up in flames.
10 years of memories and personal belongings just gone.

Sadly, Monica was not able to afford insurance leaving her nothing to rebuild with.

Many in Port Alberni will know Monica Odenwald for her years of involvement in the Port Alberni community.

Monica recently lost her job at the Crisis Center where she had dedicated her time and energy helping those in Port Alberni and surrounding communities through her work there as well as weekly deliveries of food hampers to families in the Tofino and Ucluelet area.

Tragically, Monica now finds herself in need of the help of her community.

Left with only the clothes on their backs, they will need to replace everything from clothes and toiletries to eventually, household items. Samantha is a grade 11 student at Aberni District Secondary School and a member of a competitive dance team. She is left with only the clothes she had with her at dance class that night.

Having only just started a new commission based job, and with no insurance this will be difficult disaster for Monica and Sam to recover from on their own. We are all chipping in what we can and hope that many others who know and love these two can help out – every little bit will help!

Moni has always given whatever she could, even when she didn’t have much and always looks for the positive in every person and situation.

Please help however you can to get these two back on their feet by making a donation, reaching out to Monica and Sam or a SHARE of this Go Fund Me!

** Good news, all 3 cats have been located and are safe!

Thanks in advance
