Signal Flow 2018 Reception Fund
Signal Flow 2018:
A Festival of New Works by Mills College Graduate Student Composers
Signal Flow is an annual 4-day festival held at Mills College, showcasing culminating works by graduate students from the MA in Composition, MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media, and MFA in Performance and Literature programs. Projects span music, sound, video, dance, performance, installation, and virtual/mixed reality. This year's Signal Flow festival will take place March 8, 9, 10 & 11 at Mills College. For more information about Signal Flow, visit signal-flow.org. For a list of composers performing this year, scroll to the bottom of this page.
The Need For Awesome Receptions
Signal Flow is free and open to the public, with receptions following each concert. In order to bring these top-notch receptions to our audience, we have to raise enough funds to cater them! (There is no built-in budget for this.)
Receptions are important to the overall health and longevity of our graduate music community. They connect us to our community outside of Mills, both academic and nonacademic, by providing space for discussion and networking; and they nourish the artists, friends, family, professors, alumni, prospective students, and audience members with food and drink, contributing to an air of celebration and a job well-done.
This is especially important to us in the aftermath of an academic year when our department's resources have been challenged by the upper administration of the College—we are reminded that even in academia, our creative enterprise is (and has always been) propelled by our collective commitment to a do-it-yourself ethos!
Our current fundraising goal is $600. We are raising this money by a) throwing a fundraising show in Oakland on February 2, b) selling a compilation release on Thursday Night Records, c) this GoFundMe campaign, and d) whatever else comes through! Whether you are planning on attending the festival and receptions, or are just looking for a way to show your support to our festival from afar, donating to our catering campaign through any or these avenues is a great way to help!
And if you can, please join us March 8-11, 2018 for the festival.
Please note: if you prefer to write a paper check or provide in-kind donations of food/drink to the festival, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements.
