Stephanie was diagnosed with Stage IV endometrial/uterine cancer in April 2018. She began chemotherapy 4/28 and completed three full treatments before undergoing a total hysterectomy. Once healed from surgery, she underwent four more chemo treatments. After completion, she began to notice some pelvic pain. We were told her pelvic scan came back clear in October, so tried not to think anything of it. But it persisted and began getting worse right around the time she started to notice ongoing headaches for about 10 days in mid-November. Her doctor brushed this all off and said it wouldn’t be related to her cancer. After a long trip to the ER, she was told that her uterine cancer had metastasized to her brain in two tumors. She immediately had the larger of the two resected on 11/16 and was told they will start CyberKnife radiation on the other tumor. This treatment starts 12/13.
A couple weeks before CyberKnife starts, she finally pleaded with her oncologist to order a pelvic/hip CT scan for her ongoing pain in that area. And as if her world hadn’t already come crashing down, she was told yet again that her cancer has metastasized, this time as a 3” tumor on her pelvic bone. They say both tumors traveled through her bloodstream, so concerns that it could be elsewhere are high. She is undergoing concurrent radiation for the pelvic tumor.
She is in severe, ongoing pain at all times. This has been completely disabling and has taken a large strike to her optimistic outlook.
She has been receiving no support, mentally, physically or emotionally from her husband and is also in the process of getting a divorce. Without the ability to work, funds are non-exsistent. Treatments and travel have been a financial burden and that is why we are so graciously asking for help. We come from a family that doesn’t ask for help, but it times of hardship, we have no other option. Thank you for supporting Stephanie in any way possible. Her PET scan results show that there are now over 100 tumors in her lungs as well as her liver. Her doctor said it is not curable this is a very aggressive form of cancer. There are too many tumors to treat with radiation. Chemotherapy has a 30% chance of working, so we are going to try immunotherapy. This new treatment she will be starting was just approved by the FDA last August. So, it is very new and does not have a ton of statistics but so far it seems to be the best option with a 50% chance to stop it from spreading and hopefully even shrink some tumors.
She will be taking an oral pill everyday and getting a transfusion every two weeks. More than likely, this will be a lifelong treatment regimen for her, as a cure is unlikely. She also has a severely inflamed lymph node in her abdomen, pressing against some nerves and her aorta that is causing uncontrollable pain so she will also be meeting with a palliative care doctor to help her manage her discomfort.
We are waiting to hear that her insurance has approved this new treatment () and her doctor would like to start it as soon as Friday but it could be sometime next week.
We are all feeling defeated, as you can imagine, especially Steph. But we will continue to think as optimistically as we can. Please keep your thoughts & prayers & support coming our way. Lord knows we all need it. #stephstrong ♥️
