Hello and thank you for your interest in helping with Shepherd Hills Haven .  After much thought, research and discussion, and, at the urging of friends, we are creating this gofundme page to help with funds for this endeavor.  Asking for help is not easy for me to do, makes me sick actually.

How did this all come about?  You would really have to read our whole story to fully understand, but the quick version is, my son and I and our four dogs, Lefty, Uno, Gate and Jack, were homeless.  Yep, living out of tents and the car.  We also ran our business out of such places in order to survive.

How we became homeless is a whole nother' story.  Let me just say, if you think it can't happen to you, think again.

One day, after the long journey back from Florida to pick up my grandson and his girlfriend, and their dog, I was so tired and weary and wondering if there was any hope at all of ever having a place to live that we could put down roots and not have to load up dogs and people and find a place to stay.

I'm no spring chicken and have quite a few health problems.

As I was driving through Texas, during the night, Dennis, grandson and his gf and all the dogs asleep, I prayed, and I got specific.  I prayed to God that He would please help us find a place to stay with a lot of land and fence where our dogs would be safe and where we could sleep at night knowing we wouldn't have to pack everyone up and move on again.

We were coming back to Arizona where we could go to Quartzsite and sell Dennis' beautiful cold forged wire wraps to hopefully make funds to maybe rent a place somewhere.

Our very first stop once we got to Arizona was a friends where we knew we could hang out for a minute or two and rest up just a bit.  He and his family invited all four of us and our dogs to stay the night.

As Dennis was outside taking care of the dogs, I heard this friend talking on the phone.  Couldn't help but over hear as I was sitting almost right next to him.

I heard him say, "yeah, they are good people, he has wrapped for me for a few years, does the Tucson show with me".  I knew then he was talking about Dennis and had absolutly no clue who he was talking to or why.

Well, turns out his wife had an idea.  She knew some people who had a place that needed someone to live on their 5 acres and take care of the place.

Next thing we knew, we had five acres, fenced, (with cattle fence so not too good for dogs, but thanks to the kindness of friends on Facebook, they raised the money for us to put some fencing up).

Then, as I was sitting here in this little building called "The Poker Room" I was praying again, asking God that if there was a way for us to buy this place, please make it happen.

Well couple hours after that prayer, the owners wife called and said that they would be willing to sell us this place for 3k down and $250 a month.  And at half the asking price!!!  Still working on selling enough pendants for the $500 we still owe on the downpayment.

Now, the dog rescue.  We love dogs.  We had talked and dreamed about having a dog rescue.  It was not on our mind to open a rescue when we first moved onto this property, but it seems as though God was giving us a head start on doing just that!

Turns out there were 5 dogs that were left here on this property that the previous person who was living here and suppose to be taking care of, was not.  They were obviously neglected and even abused by the way they all acted, scared and unapproachable.

It seemed as if God was answering more than one prayer.  The income Dennis and I make together is not enough to run a dog rescue.  The fellow who was here trashed the place.  The ceiling in the single wide mobile leaks bad, there are holes in the floor, there was garbage and needles and cat poop and more covering the floors.  The toilets made me want to puke.  Disgusting.

Thanks again to those Facebook friends who have donated their time in running auctions, donating funds for food and moral support and prayers.  We appreciate all of it.

As I sit here this morning typing this I wonder if this dream of running this rescue is going to come true.  It's needed.  There are very few rescues in our area and the closest one is close to 40 miles.

Oh yeah, one of the desert dogs was pregnant and we have puppies.  But no vet money to get their shots and get them all spayed and neutered.

Simply put, with our income we can not do this alone.  If we could, we would.

We have brainstormed on how to raise funds and have a few things in the works.  Selling post cards, greeting cards as one of my passions is photography.

Building websites is another.  I have created a website for our local merchants and hope to sell spots on it, providing our vehicle holds up.

If anyone has ideas on how to generate more funds for this rescue, please email me.

If you would like to help, there are several ways.  One is to donate funds, another is to purchase one of our pendants  that Dennis makes using the cold forged method and another is to purchase a print from our fine art america site .  New pendants are coming real soon.  He has some wrapped but we are waiting on delivery of jewelers rouge to shine them.

Or, if you have materials to donate that would be wonderful too, however we do not have the correct type of transportation for lumber, fencing or other big items such as dog houses.

You can follow the progress on our website  or on our blog

Thank you again for reading and your interest in helping.
